Wherever you are in the world, burgers are a fan favorite. But a restaurant chain says we’ve been eating them badly all this time.
Burgers are a classic favorite for many people, but it turns out we may have been eating them wrong this whole time.
TGI Fridays, the popular restaurant chain that has now been rebranded as Fridays, made the extraordinary claim that we should eat them upside down. And it’s for a very good reason.
As part of the company’s Flip It Challenge, she said the unusual method has its benefits.
On its Instagram account, the restaurant said: “According to our experts, the best way to eat a burger is to flip it upside down.
“The thicker top bun soaks up burger juices, helping to lock in that flavor longer.”
A Friday burger expert added: “The reason many say a burger tastes better when eaten ‘upside down’ is because the bun on top is thicker.
“So flipping your burger means there’s more bun underneath to soak up the juices and flavors of the burger and toppings as you bite into it.
“It also means your tongue meets the toppings first and the burger second.
“Whether this tastes better to you is down to personal preference, so give it a try and let us know what you find!”
The method may be new to some, but some burger fans have been trying to spread the word for years.
In 2018, Simon Dukes, who is the founder of the Burger Lad blog, said Initiated why the “thicker top bun” should go below.
He said: “The burgers are served as they are for aesthetics only.
“The crown (the top of the bun) is usually thicker (and therefore sturdier) than the heel, so for the best dining experience you should actually flip it over to eat it.
“The crown will then bear the brunt of everything else, and it’s less likely to collapse in your hands,” he said.
“A true burger connoisseur should always eat their burgers upside down.”
