Britney Spears and her partner Sam Asghari made a joint announcement on social media, sharing tragic news with fans.
Singer Britney Spears has suffered a miscarriage, she announced today in a joint statement with her fiancé Sam Asghari.
The 40-year-old mother-of-two announced she was expecting her third child last month.
“It is with our greatest sadness that we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy,” the statement read.
“This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce that we were further along. However, we were too excited to share the good news.
The couple added that their love for each other is their “strength” right now.
“We will continue to try to grow our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for your privacy during this difficult time.
Spears and 28-year-old personal trainer Asghari also thanked fans for their support, writing, “We are grateful for what we have growing our beautiful family. Thank you for your support.”
Asghari also commented below the post, writing, “We will have a miracle soon.”
Spears had been keeping fans regularly updated on her pregnancy since announcing she was expecting last month. The news of her baby came after she was released from a 13-year-old conservatorship during which decisions about her life, career and even her fertility were made for her.
Spears is a mother of two sons, Jaden, 15, and Sean, 16, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. During her guardianship hearings last year, she repeatedly expressed her desire to be able to start a family with Asghari, who she has been with since shortly after appearing in one of her music videos in 2016.
Spears revealed last month that she got pregnant after the couple’s recent vacation in Hawaii.
“I thought ‘Damn…what happened to my stomach?’ My husband said ‘No, you’re pregnant with stupid food.’
“So I took a pregnancy test…and uhhhhh well…I’m having a baby…four days later…”
She continued, “I’m having a baby…He’s growing! If there are two, I risk losing it.
“It’s difficult because when I was pregnant, I had perinatal depression. I have to say it is absolutely awful. Women didn’t talk about it back then…but now women talk about it every day!
Britney concluded: “…This time I’m going to do yoga every day! Spread lots of joy and love.
At the time, Asghari also expressed his excitement over the news, writing, “Fatherhood is something I’ve always looked forward to and don’t take lightly. This is the most important job I will ever do.
