“It’s been really crazy watching him [Laroi] growing up, I remember we could, for example, take Ubers everywhere and go to restaurants. We don’t get to do that that much these days,” she said.
The couple met through friends but were separated for months once the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the United States went into lockdown.
“When we started talking I literally had no idea who he was. He released a song and then the pandemic hit and I wasn’t allowed to leave the house for three months,” recalls -she.
“So we Facetimed for hours every day and became great friends before we started dating.”
Demetriades is a star in her own right, with 9.5 million likes on TikTok and 1.2 million followers on Instagram as Katarina Deme, mostly satirical videos, selfies and snaps alongside Laroi.
“I don’t know if I would necessarily say I’m famous. If anything, I’d say I’m kinda well-known,” she says of her high-profile relationship and social media stardom.
“I think I’ve been extremely lucky to have been able to get some attention online. I don’t post as much as I should, it’s always a second thought for my school work.
Despite the fame that comes with her boyfriend’s job, she doesn’t let his celebrity status get to her head or interfere with their relationship.
“It’s one of those things that has to happen in any relationship but, for us, it’s on a bigger scale,” she explains. “We love each other…so it’s like anything, who cares?
Her megastar boyfriend, also 18, isn’t shy about proclaiming his love for Demetriades either, telling vogue australia he hoped they would marry one day when the couple appeared on the cover of the magazine.
“I’m probably one of the luckiest people in the world because even when something doesn’t seem to work, it somehow works, just look at my girlfriend. I’m so lucky! ” he told the publication, adding. “We just take life as it happens. But, of course, I would like to marry Kat one day.
When the couple aren’t playing laser tag, go-karting or visiting theme parks, they’re red carpet regulars, having recently attended the Grammys alongside Hollywood couple Justin and Hailey Bieber.
“Meeting Hailey Bieber was huge. She’s like the sweetest soul in the world. I looked up to her growing up, and she’s so beautiful inside and out, so it was a mind-blowing moment for me when she even knew my name.
