FFXIV’s Naoki Yoshida Addresses the Housing Lottery System, Details Upcoming Fixes

For almost 4 weeks now, problems related to the FFXIV The 6.1 Update Housing Lottery is underway. In April, producer and director of Final Fantasy 14, Naoki Yoshida addressed concerns about several serious bugs that were preventing players from successfully winning their auctions, and in some cases storylines show there were no contestants at all. In the last post, Yoshida outlined the steps they will take to address the housing issue.

If you were expecting a resolution at the FFXIV housing lottery problem, you no longer have to wait. According to Naoki Yoshida, the team will restore the housing data on May 16andwhich will then give players just over a week to complete their purchase.

Some players may be happy to see that they did indeed win their auction even though they got their Gil back due to the “Winning Lottery Number of 0” error. Fortunately, even if your deposit has been refunded, you will still have the option of reclaiming your land. For those whose deposit has been returned, they allow players to voluntarily return the deposit through an NPC in patch 6.2. It is important to understand that if you have not claimed the land you have won by May 26and at 8:00 AM PDT, you will lose the ability to claim it and must enter the next lottery round.

These issues have been extensive and persistent, and I truly apologize for the time it took to resolve them. However, I am happy to report that we have completed preparations to implement our fixes and restore lottery data.

  • Reproduce the problem
  • Correction of identified errors
  • Checking for patches
  • Restoring lottery data

We have completed the steps above to identify and fix reported issues and are now ready to perform maintenance on public servers.

-Naoki Yoshida, Director and Producer, FFXIV

Yoshida insists the team worked hard to put things right about this stressful issue. They don’t want to make the problem worse by doing some sort of restore to get the initial deposits that some people have been refunded. Instead, the team just wants to bring players the working housing system they promised, and will work diligently to fix any issues that might prevent that from happening. The next Housing Lottery is scheduled for May 26 at 8:00 a.m. PDT, with a 5-day registration period followed by a 4-day results period.
