The Google I/O 2022 event saw announcements related to the Pixel wallet. The Pixel wallet does not only mean smartphones, but also TWS earphones and Pixel watches. The 2022 entry/exit event for developers has now announced the expansion of the Pixel wallet. That said, the Google Pixel wallet has been kept away from India and Indian buyers. The American tech giant avoided India for the launch of Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, mainly due to declining sales.
Now, the latest Google Pixel 6a announcement has brought the debate back to the fore. Google has announced the watered down version of the Pixel 6 series to selected countries and India is not among them, as of now. The Google Store help page says the Pixel 6a is only available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, in Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
On May 11, Google launched Pixel 6a powered by its self-developed Tensor processor at $499 (nearly ₹38,665). Pixel smartphones were known for their glossy portraits and clean Android user interface.
The Pixel 6a borrows design elements from the Pixel 6, including the camera bar and a metal frame. Google Pixel 6a is available in three colors; Chalk, charcoal and sage. The Pixel 6a camera bar features two rear cameras: a 12.2MP main lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. As for the selfie, the Pixel 6a has an 8MP lens.
The Pixel 6a comes with voice recognition like the Pixel 6 Pro. It includes features like Recorder, Live Caption and Live Translate. The Pixel 6a comes with an all-day battery that can last up to 72 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode, Google says. The Pixel 6a will receive five years of security updates. The Pixel 6a will be among the first Android devices to receive the upcoming Android 13 update. It also features a Titan M2 chip for security.
In India, it is expected to launch via Flipkart by July this year, but there is still no confirmation from Google. If it launches, the features will be similar to those it has around the world. The Pixel 6a comes with a 6.1-inch screen, Tensor chip paired with Titan M2 on 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Meanwhile, Google also launched the Pixel Buds Pro at the I/O 2022 event. It is priced at $199 (nearly ₹15,419). Awaiting the arrival of Pixel 6a in India, Google introduced its next generation of Pixel devices; Pixel Watch powered by Wear OS which looks premium dazzling in a circular dial, and Pixel 7. These new devices; Pixel Watch and Pixel 7 will launch later this year during Spring Winter.
Google has also planned an Android tablet for 2023 powered by Tensor.
