‘The Callisto Protocol’ director says to “look for some news next week”

More news on the upcoming sci-fi horror and survival game the Callisto Protocol from developer Striking Distance Studios is set to arrive next week.

That’s according to game director Glen Schofield, who made the announcement on Twitter earlier this week (May 13).

“If you’re not already following [The Callisto Protocol‘s account] this might be a good time to start. Expect news next week. The tweet also contained a close-up image of one of the monsters that will also feature in the game, looking suitably grotesque.

The Callisto Protocol was originally announced via a trailer at The Game Awards 2020, and is the first title from Striking Distance Studios. The game appears to be a spiritual successor to Schofield’s 2008 classic dead spacewith a number of key members of the Striking Distance Studios team who also participated in the dead space franchise.

Schofield is also known for his work on Gex 3D: Enter the Gecko, Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain, and more recently the co-creation of Sledgehammer Games, one of Call of Dutykey developers.

The Callisto Protocol takes place in a penal colony located on Jupiter’s moon Callisto, and players control one of the prisoners as they fight off an alien invasion seemingly influenced by the prison guards. Curiously, the title takes place in the PUBG universe, also published by Krafton.

Striking Distance Studios and Krafton have partnered with Skybound Entertainment (The Walking Dead, Invincible, Outcast), the latter seeing potential for multimedia links in the future.

Needless to say, this looks like an ambitious release, with the development team consisting of 150 employees, and Schofield aiming to take full advantage of the Xbox Series X hardware | S and PS5.

Upon publication, The Callisto Protocol is slated for release in 2022.

In other news, Activision Blizzard has created a tool to quantify character diversity in its games.
